LA Sparks Women's Basketball Games

When: Through August

Where: Staples Center, Downtown

What: Watch our talented lady players, the LA Sparks, shoot hoops with the best of them.

Sunset Junction Street Festival

When: Aug. 21-22, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Where: 3400-3600 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake

What: East Siders and LA hipsters take to the streets of Silver Lake where bands like Bad Brains, The Ohio Players and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros play live, and rides and food beckon.

LA Latino International Film Festival

When: August 19-25

Where: Chinese 6 Mann Cinemas, Hollywood

What: The festival showcases feature films, documentaries, shorts and side bar screenings by Latino filmmakers, producers, writers and actors (as well as films depicting Latino culture). The competitive festival (there are prizes) will also host industry workshops, panels, labs and networking events. 

Come Out & Dance!

When: Thursdays through August 26

Where: AMC Walkway, Burbank

What: Dance the summer away at this weekly summer music festival featuring boogie, hop, cha cha cha and more. Festivities kick off nightly at 6 p.m. with a dance lesson.

The Films of Akira Kurosawa, Part II

When: August 6-29

Where: Billy Wilder Theater, Westwood

What: Calling all film students and major film buffs! The UCLA Film & Television Archive and the American Cinematheque are featuring the second installment of a two-part retrospective of the career of master Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. You won't want to miss this. 

Rangoli Performs Classical Indian Dance

When: August 29, 4 p.m.

Where: Scherr Forum Theatre, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza

What: Come explore the exotic with traditional Indian dances (and new work) performed by the Rangoli Dance Company. Ticket prices range from $20-$50.

KCRW's World Festival

When: Sundays through September

Where: Hollywood Bowl

What: In its 12th year, this collaborative event between KCRW and the Hollywood Bowl showcases amazing artists from all over the world on six Sundays through September.

LA Galaxy Soccer Games

When: Through October

Where: Home Depot Center

What: Team USA played valiantly in World Cup 2010. Keep the torch of soccer alive in the US and LA by coming out and supporting our home team including the amazingly talented international (Team USA) soccer star Landon Donovan. 

LA Dodgers Baseball Games

When: Through October

Where: Dodger Stadium, Elysian Park

What: Dodger blue spirit is alive and well in Los Angeles as baseball season zooms into action.

Fallen Fruit Presents EATLACMA

When: Through November 11

Where: Los Angeles County Museum of Art

What: A year-long investigation into food, art, politics and culture, EATLACMA is a collaborative project between LACMA and Fallen Fruit. As part of it, artists gardens are planted and harvested at the museum while hands-on public events take place. The entire work culminates in a day-long event in November through which over 50 artists and collectives re-imagine the museum and its galleries.
