Spring is in the air. And so are plenty of fun film, music, art, sports and multimedia events and festivals in Los Angeles. 

2013 UCLA Festival of Preservation

When: March 1-30

Where: Million Dollar Theater

What: Once every two years, the Festival of Preservation, a month-long program, puts the spotlight on UCLA's restorationists' projects like classic Hollywood features, TV, newsreels, silent films and indie movies.

Balanchine Festival 2013

When: March and April

Where: Los Angeles Ballet, West LA

What: A celebration of master choreographer George Balanchine's legacy through tour-de-force performances and 'The Balanchine Talks' (45 minute discussions and interviews preceding the performances).

The James Hunter Six

When: March 7, 8 p.m.

Where: El Rey Theatre

What: James Hunter--whose voice has been compared to Sam Cooke's--performs. The Relatives open. Tickets to the all ages show are $22.

Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth

When: March 8-10, 8 p.m.

Where: Pantages Theater

What: The touring one-man show directed by Spike Lee and starring Mike Tyson offers a rare, personal look at the legendary and controversial boxer. Don't worry, promises the star, 'you will leave the show with two ears.'

Book Savvy

When: March 10, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Where: Marina del Rey Hotel

What: Book Savvy, an annual publishing conference, kicks off another year with panel presentations geared towards writers, covering topics like self-publishing, digital publishing, book promotion, literary trends and more. There will also be a special pitch prep workshop and chances to pitch literary agents and film producers.

Marc Spitz' Poseur: A Memoir of Downtown New York City in the '90s

When: March 13, 7 p.m.

Where: Book Soup, W. Hollywood

What: The author--a journalist, playwright, rock writer and blogger--discusses his humorous memoir about seeking out edgy, druggy fun in pre-gentrified Downtown New York in the '90s.

Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Community Parade

When: March 16, 11 a.m.

Where: Pier Ave. and Valley Dr. Hermosa Beach

What: If you live in the South Bay or just need a beach getaway on St. Patty’s Day, head down to this parade--now in its 19th year. There will be floats, marching bands, classic cars, clowns and more starting at 11 a.m.

2013 St. Patrick's Day Festival

When: March 17, 1-5 p.m.

Where: The Arena, Hollywood

What: This annual celebration of the most Irish day of the year includes a full day of wine, beer and spirit drinking, as well as food.

The LA Marathon

When: March 17

Where: Downtown to Santa Monica

What: This annual 'stadium-to-sea' 26-mile race (which also features a 5K) will take runners all over the city, from a start-point at Dodger Stadium through West Hollywood, Beverly and ultimately to a finish-line in Santa Monica.

The End of the Night

When: March 21-April 28

Where: LACE

What: This group exhibition explores the influence of French filmmaker Henri-Georges Clouzot and his unfinished film. Five artists have been invited to reflect on the cineaste's experimentation and to respond to it.
