In youth-obsessed LA, over 40 is over-the-hill. When it comes to aircraft, this rule still applies. Old NASA Boeing 747-123 is 42 and it was recently put out to pasture -- so to speak.

The aforementioned shuttle carrier aircraft -- Boeing's 86th 747 ever produced -- was first delivered to American Airlines in 1970 (as N9668). It's had the honor of carrying the Space Shuttle Endeavor to California.

The majestic relic's final takeoff occurred two days ago from LAX. A YouTube video depicts this aeronautical swan song.
