To outsiders, Southern California can seem like a sun-soaked Valhalla for the vain and shallow. But, as Americans have discovered through the poignant work of local scribes like Charles Bukowski, Brett Easton Ellis and so on--there's another side to our region.
Young authors like Dana Johnson, are also uncovering the gritty and profound underbelly of So.Cal in their literary work. The aforementioned novelist writes in Elsewhere California, about a family in suburban West Covina, whose life is overturned when a violent extended family member comes to live with them.
Johnson will be at Skylight Books for a special author event on Friday, July 20th at 7:30 p.m. to celebrate the release of the book. She will be joined by author Paula Priamos, whose book The Shyster's Daughter was also recently released.
If you're a literary buff, particularly fascinated by California writers and into checking out the next wave of wordsmiths, you won't want to miss this intimate event.
