French 'Fourth of July' Bastille Day Festivities

By , About.com GuideJuly 2, 2012

Follow me on:

Independence Day is just around the corner. If you haven't found a Fourth of July LA Fireworks Event yet, don't worry, there's still time.

A less frequently talked-about July event--unless you're big on 'French Los Angeles' is Bastille Day, July 14th (a.k.a. 'the French Fourth of July').

In my personal experience, it's great fun, especially if you find a lovely little French restaurant in which to uncork some champagne with friends.

Here are my faves:

-La Poubelle in Los Feliz
-The Little Door on Third Street
-Fig & Olive on Melrose Place (although not exclusively French, it boasts a cornucuopia of offerings that were good enough for the Mayor of Mougins who attended the restaurant's opening)
-Figarot Bistrot in Los Feliz

Lastly, if you miss Bastille Day proper (on July 14th), there will be another Bastille Day celebration at the Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area in Baldwin Hills on July 15th from 12 p.m.-4 p.m.
