Spring is in full swing. It's time to take time out from your busy schedule to smell the roses, literally and figuratively. Perfect timing on the part of the Shambhalla Institute, which is offering a two-day sustainable gardening class starting tomorrow.
In the class, instructor Melinda Joy Miller (Shambhalla Institute founder) teaches students the hands-on aspects of gardening--like how to set up sustainable container crops, how to grow nutritious foods, and about the medicinal qualities of herbs.
The course also boasts a spiritual twist. Students will learn about the Shamanic characteristics of herbs, Eastern principles of garden design and the psychology of flowers and color.
The class consists of two 10 a.m.-4 p.m. sessions tomorrow (May 12) and Friday (May 14). It costs $320 for two days and $165 for one day (with a $50 pre-registration fee). For more information and a reservation call 323-309-2945.
And if you get really into it and are left wanting more, Shambhalla also offers a more extensive sustainable gardening class (of which this is an abridged version).
