DJ AM Found Dead!

News first broke yesterday evening that DJ AM, Adam Goldstein was found dead in his New York apartment. Beyond DJ'ing, Goldstein owned the Los Angeles nightclub LAX.

The cause of the dee jay's death is said to have been a drug overdose (a crack pipe was apparently found in his apartment). Friends of Goldstein's (who at one time dated Nicole Richie and then Mandy Moore) had apparently tried to contact him for days and been unsuccessful.

Beyond his battle with drug addiction (he had been sober for about a decade), Goldstein had even recently survived a major jet crash with drummer Travis Barker.

This news comes within 24 hours of the late Michael Jackson's birthday (his death was ruled a homicide today), adding to the loss of pop figures and icons in LA and around the world.

Local nightlife photographer the Cobrasnake has posted on his Twitter feed: "been crying all night. dj am was such an amazing person. im really going to miss him. this is extremely upsetting. you will always be loved."

LA's own dance/nightlife magazine Urb is asking people to email in their tributes.
